**Privacy Policy** Last updated: October 17, 2026 This policy explains what personal information the Guernsey Goat Breeders of America (“GGBoA,” “the Association,” “we”) collects through the GGBoA forum (“the Forum”), how we use it, and your choices. It covers the Forum only. The Forum is run by volunteers, and no one is paid to run it. **What We Collect** - **Account information:** your username, email address, and password (stored in scrambled form, never in readable text). You may also add a display name, profile picture, bio, and location, and these are optional. You may use a pseudonym as your username. - **Your posts and activity:** topics, replies, likes, flags, messages, and the time of each. This includes posts in public categories and, for members, in members-only categories. - **Technical information:** your IP address, browser type, and the pages you visit, which the Forum software records to run the site, prevent spam, and keep it secure. - **Cookies and analytics:** the Forum uses cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences. We don’t use advertising cookies and we haven’t set up any third-party analytics. The Forum software and our hosting and email providers may collect usage data as part of running their services, and we don’t control that. Their own policies explain what they collect. We don’t collect payment information through the Forum. Subscriptions and payments are handled by Squarespace and its payment processor under their own policies. **Membership Status** To give members access to the members-only areas, administrators compare Forum email addresses with the membership list from Squarespace. We use that comparison only to confirm and update membership status in the Forum. **What Is Public** Posts in public categories can be read by anyone, including people without accounts and search engines, and may be copied or shared by others. Your username and any profile information you choose to display are visible with your posts. Listings in The Trading Post are public, so any contact details you post there are visible to everyone. Posts in members-only categories are visible only to members, moderators, and administrators. A private message between users is visible only to its participants, though administrators may access it if needed to investigate a report or keep the site running. **Who Can See Your Email** Your email address is visible only to site administrators. Moderators can’t see it. Other members never see it unless you choose to share it in a post. **How We Use Information** - To run the Forum, including logging you in, showing your posts, and sending notifications you’ve asked for - To confirm membership and give access to members-only categories - To moderate the Forum, prevent spam and abuse, and keep it secure - To send administrative messages about your account or the Forum We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t use it for advertising. **Email** The Forum sends emails such as account confirmations, password resets, invitations, and notifications. You can control notification and digest emails in your Forum preferences. **Service Providers** We use UpCloud to host the Forum and Brevo to send email. They process information on our behalf to provide these services. We may also disclose information if the law requires it or to protect the safety of members. **How Long We Keep Information** Account information and posts are kept while your account exists. Server logs, including IP addresses, are kept only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting. If your membership ends, your account remains as a free account unless you ask us to remove it. **Your Choices** You can view and edit your profile information and email settings in your Forum preferences. You can ask us to anonymize or close your account by contacting [forum@ggboa.org](mailto:forum@ggboa.org). If you leave the Forum or your membership ends, your posts remain visible. Anonymizing removes your name and account details but may not remove personal information you wrote inside a post, and posts that others have quoted or replied to may remain in their posts. **Children** The Forum isn’t intended for anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has registered, contact us and we’ll remove the account. **Members in the UK, EU, and California** If you live in the UK, the European Economic Area, or California, you may have extra rights over your personal information, including the right to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, and to object to how we use it. In the UK and EU you may also complain to your local data protection regulator. We extend these requests to all members, wherever they live. Email [forum@ggboa.org](mailto:forum@ggboa.org) and we’ll respond within 30 days. We use your information to run the Forum and manage access, which is our legitimate interest as a member association and necessary to provide the service you signed up for. The Forum is hosted on servers in Chicago, in the United States. Backups are stored in Sweden. If you live outside the United States, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States. **Changes** We may update this policy.
